Begin the tour today by travelling up the coast to Valparaíso, one of Chile's most important seaports and an increasingly vital cultural center. Although Santiago is Chile's official capital, Valparaiso houses the National Congress. Built upon dozens of steep hillsides overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Valparaíso boasts a labyrinth of streets and cobblestone alleyways, embodying a rich architectural and cultural legacy. It is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is often considered to be one of Latin America's most intriguing urban areas.
After a short stop for Lunch (not included) we continue to Viña del Mar.
Viña del Mar, is the town Chileans refer to as Ciudad Jardín (Garden City) due to its parks, flower beds and gardens. The city was founded in 1874, by the engineer Jose Francisco Vergara Echevers, and has grown into Chile's most luxurious beach resort town, attracting visitors from all over the world.
Visitors come for Vina Del Mar 's languid tropical atmosphere, its grand tree lined streets, its vast, soft stretches of white sand beach, and to savour the cuisine in the abundance of gourmet restaurants.
Finally we will see the Vergara Pier which was inaugurated in 1938. It was first used in the loading and unloading of coal; later, it came into the possession of the now defunct sugar refinery 'Crav'. Next to the pier we will find the beaches of 'Acapulco' to the south, and 'El Sol' (the sun) to the north. Driving past the vast Botanical Gardens we travel back to Santiago via Renaca.
