From Bogotá to the Coffee Region

On the western slopes of the central Chain of the Andes is to be found Colombia's coffee growing region, with its plantations, 5000 metre high volcanoes and old style villages.

Here one can witness the process of coffee production from beginning to end, from the initial picking of the beans right up to the final stages

DAY 1: Bogotá - Armenia, Pereira or Manizales
Flight from Bogota to the Coffee Region. Welcome by the local guide and initiation of the tour with a half-day visit to Armenia, capital of the department of Quindío. Following this, a trip to a romantic coffee-growing farm. Four nights with full board.

DAY 2: Armenia, Pereira or Manizales
Whole morning visit to a coffee-growing farm, which includes a technical briefing about the whole coffee cultivation and production process.
Next, visit to the picturesque villages of Circasia, Salento and Filandia. Circasia is famous for its “Free Cemetery”, the first in Latin-America to bury people regardless of their creed or religious affiliation. In Salento, we can see the impressive “Palma de Cera”, the Colombian national tree and one of the tallest varities of palm in the world. With good weather, tourists will be able to appreciate the fantastic panorama offered by the snow-covered volcanoes that form part of the “Parque Natural de los Nevados”. After passing through Filandia, another of the region's typical villages, we begin our afternoon return to the coffee-growing farm.

DAY 3: Armenia, Pereira or Manizales
After breakfast whole day excursion through the municipalities of Barcelona, Pijao, Buenavista and Génova in order to get a real impression of the culture and way of life in the coffee zone. There is almost no need to mention that the scenery is spectacular. Later on, visit to the “Guadua and Bamboo Experimental Centre”.
In the afternoon, return to the coffee-growing farm, having the opportunity to rest and to visit the farm on your own.

DAY 4: Armenia, Pereira or Manizales
Whole day tour to the Coffee Growing Centre; followed by a trip to Calarcá where there will be a visit to a beautiful botanical garden. Right after this, the trip continues through La Tebaida towards Montenegro and the “Parque del Café” where one will learn a lot more about coffee cultivation. Next, tour through Quimbaya, the third largest town in Quindío. In the afternoon, return to the coffee farm with time to rest and explore.
