14 Day Self Drive Wine Tour – North Island
14 Days / 13 Nights

From $2,150 per person Double Occupancy

This self drive through the North Island of New Zealand Focuses on fantastic food and wine, it serves up all kinds of cultural and adventure experiences. You'll discover five of New Zealand's most scenic regions, including three major wine-growing areas

Day 1 – Arrive Auckland

Upon arrival at Auckland Airport, you will pick up your rental vehicle and drive to your central city accommodation.  This day is free for you to unpack, relax, and explore the city area. Places to visit: Viaduct Basin.  This vibrant waterfront precinct was developed to provide a focus for America's Cup Yacht Race.  This is also a great place for night-time entertainment with its many cafes and bars.

 

Sky City. Standing 328 meters tall, this is one of New Zealand's most popular entertainment destinations.  Having 2 casinos, ten restaurants and bars and from the Observation level the best view of Auckland City and surrounding areas. Accommodation: Central city accommodation

Day 2 - Auckland to Rotorua

 

Travel to Rotorua, approximately 3.5 hours drive from Auckland. Rotorua is a true natural wonder.  Here you can experience some of earth natural forces as work, visiting the natural thermal areas, watch the geyers and feel the heat radiating from the mud pools.Highlights include; Agrodome, Whakarewarewa Thermal Area, Rainbow Springs, Skyline Skyrides Gonodola and Luge and Polynesian Spa Pools in Rotorua. Accommodation: Overnight in Rotoura

Day 3 - Hawkes Bay/Napier

 

Take the drive to the east coast through Taupo approximately 3.5 hours. Hawkes Bay is fast gaining prominence as a region producing premium wines. The Hawkes Bay has a great selection of vineyards within a few minutes of each other. Accommodation: Central Napier accommodation.

Day 4 - Hawkes Bay/Napier

 

Have the day to explore some of the great vineyards that the Hawkes Bay has to offer.

Day 5 - Waiarapa

 

Take the drive south to the Waiarapa approximately 4 hours.  Essentially rural with off-the beaten-track charm, Wairarapa promises a diverse experience for those who appreciate great wine, gourmet food, astonishing wildlife and natural beauty. Rolling vineyards, acres of apple orchards, fields of lavender, olive groves, heritage museums and quaint historic towns combine to make Wairarapa an appealing destination.

Day 6 - Waiarapa

 

Have the day to explore the vineyards.  Hire a bike to have a bit of fun, the vineyards are a stone through away from the city centre.

Day 7 - Wellington

 

Take the drive south once again to the capital city of New Zealand, Wellington.  This is approximately a 3 hour drive.

 

Wellington is a great place to enjoy a great meal and some of the great restaurants that Wellington has to offer.

Day 8 - Wellington

 

Accommodation: Central Wellington

 

Visit Te Papa (New Zealand's famous museum) this will take most of the day and is a lively and exciting museum, for adults and children alike.  Main entry is free of charge; specialty exhibitions may incur a fee.

Day 9 - Blenheim

 

Take the trip on the Interisland Ferry from Wellington to Picton. Once in Picton take the short trip south to Blenheim.  Situated in the largest and best-known New Zealand wine region.

Day 10 - Blenheim

 

Have the day to explore some of the great vineyards that New Zealand has to offer.  There is a great variety to choose from.

Day 11 – Wellington

 

Back to Wellington, take the time to enjoy the things you missed out on the first time.

Day 12 - Taupo

 

While in Taupo experience Huka Falls and Huka Jets. Huka jets will make you feel the exhilaration and enjoy the incredible water view of the spectacular, foaming Huka Falls.

Day 13 – Auckland

 

Enjoy your last full day in New Zealand at leisure.
